Die einzigen Tage, an denen Bottazzi nicht auf das Gerüst steigt, um mit feinen Pinseln an seinem Werk zu arbeiten, sind jene, an denen die Luchtfeuchtigkeit über 95 Prozent steigt. Denn er malt mit Öl auf einer mit Leinwand überzogenen Metallstruktur. Dabei verwendet er eine Technik, zu der ihn der flämische Maler Jan van Eyck inspiriert hat. Der Künstler aus dem 15. Jahrhundert hat durch lasierende Übermalungen eine stärkere Leuchtkraft der Farben erzeugt. Bottazzi hat bislang weltweit rund 40 monumentale Werke im öffentlichen Raum geschaffen, darunter in Paris im Geschäftsviertel „La Défense“…

Ende Dezember soll das abstrakte Riesenbild fertig sein, das bis dahin mit weichen, runden Formen in zarten Rosa- und Gelbtönen bedeckt sein wird. Du haut de son échafaudage, dressé à Bruxelles sur la façade aveugle d’un immeuble de la place Jourdan, le peintre trace à la peinture à l’huile de grandes courbes colorées, où l’ocre et le jaune dominent, sur un support de béton recouvert de toile. L’oeuvre abstraite de 16 mètres de haut pour 7 de large, entamée début octobre, devrait être achevée d’ici un mois si la capricieuse météo belge le permet…

Peintre français à la carrière internationale, Monsieur Guillaume Bottazzi a vécu de très nombreuses années à l’étranger, aussi bien en Amérique qu’en Asie. C’est aujourd’hui en Belgique qu’il a choisi de poser ses valises et ses pinceaux. C’est avec une grande hospitalité qu’il nous a reçus dans son atelier de la région bruxelloise et a accepté de répondre à nos questions.

Själva vardandet är en performance. Bottazzi arbetar ensam, det kommer att ta minst två månader innan verket är klart. ’Jag använder tekniker inspirerade av den holländske mästaren Jan van Eyck; med borstar och oljefärg, för att successivt bygga upp olika transparenta lager som ger djup åt målningen’. För Bottazzi är det viktigt att barn engageras tidigt i konst, han ser det som ett svar på våldet och den tilltagande extremismen i Europa. Därför bjöds 300 skolbarn i området in att ta del av kreationen, genom en workshop där de fick måla fritt efter hans instruktioner. Ganska effektfullt när 300 ballonger i konstverkets rosa-gula nyanser släpptes upp i skyn…
